I have a new Classical Academic Press Well Ordered Language Level 1A - teachers manual and workbook, that I intended to use with Mark last semester, and didn’t get to. This year we are doing the classical co op m, which uses a different grammar book, and so I won’t be using it after all. Anyone want it for half price? ($25) Also, we are starting out grow curriculum here. I have Math U See teachers manuals and DVDs, levels Alpha, Beta, and Gamma. I have Real Science for Kids Biology, elementary, text and lab manual. If anyone is interested, just call me at 605-681-7613 Jodi

My dad, Gary Hartje, passed away yesterday, June 11, early in the am, after a short stay at Dougherty Hospice house. Please pray for the repose of his soul, and for the rest of us as we go through the process of finalizing my parents estate (my mother had passed away in September).

Saint Lambert Parish is rolling out a Family Adoration Hour starting this Thursday, January 27, from 6:30-7:30pm. Designated specifically for families that have wanted to bring their kids to adoration, teach them about adoration, but felt inhibited because they were worried that their children couldn’t be silent. Kris Aasen and Jodi Reel will be there with materials and assistance if you like, but nothing formal will be presented. You may teach your children and have them participate as you would like. Come for a little bit or the whole time, it’s up to you.

In case you missed it, this Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday (Dec. 15,17, 18) are opportunities to enter in more fully to Advent, and sacrifice for our priests and religious by fasting and praying. Ember days are a great way to boost your domestic church. Read all about it, and happy fasting and praying! https://www.catholiccompany.com/getfed/what-are-ember-days/?trk_msg=E6L8V75N31G4T65PUO4K22F6SO&trk_contact=QGJHOF8RGTBP3ROAQGA338NJCO&trk_sid=6I8PVI4NMQRIBMQ97DT3KPTA7K&trk_link=PDH267F18094FC9JTPF7B13C6C&utm_source=listrak&utm_medium=email&utm_term=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.catholiccompany.com%2Fgetfed%2Fwhat-are-ember-days%2F&utm_campaign=getfed&fbclid=IwAR3vInCgVPlKm0lOJBV80_hwk8SWdhk_M7RezTZZ5WIUzf-enxZTmn2huoc

Dear SMF members, The board has decided to close the SMF Facebook group to ensure that all communication is channeled through the forum on the SMF website. Because several of our members are not on Facebook, not everyone in the membership has access to what is posted there. This decision will ensure that communication amongst the membership is streamlined and available to all members. In Service, Barbara, Jodi, Katie, Kendra and Meghan

FROM FAIRSD: The new online notification form on the DOE website is not in compliance with the law. FAIRSD recommends submitting the paper form only. The SD Department of Education has created an online notification system. FAIRSD has reviewed it and found that it is NOT in compliance with the law since it requests a child's physical and mailing address. The new law is very specific about what information the DOE may include which is only name, birthdate, resident district, open enrolled district (if applicable), a signature and information for returning the form. The online form generates an automatic email return so there is no need for an address at all. There is a paper copy available on the website. A parent/guardian may choose the online form or the paper copy. Until the online form is in full compliance with the law, FAIRSD is recommending that the paper form be used exclusively. https://doe.sd.gov/oatq/documents/TEMP-Alt.pdf A notification form must be submitted for each child this year. After one submission, you will never have to do it again unless there is a transition (you move, open enroll or enroll in school). The form should be submitted to the DOE email or physical address OR to your local school district by email, mail or simply dropping it off, whichever option you are most comfortable with. To be clear...the form does NOT require approval by the DOE or school board or superintendent. No witness signatures, notaries or submission of birth certificates are required when a parent/guardian is providing notification. However, if a child is participating in activities at the school, you may need to provide a birth certificate in that case. If a child is participating in a SD High School Activities Association sanctioned activity, a birth certificate is required. Please help us spread this message by sending it through your homeschool circles.

In case you are not on Facebook, or you missed an email, FAIRSD has been notified that school districts do not have a paper form for the school exemption, and are asking everyone to create A My Space account. FAIRSD cautions against doing this, and wants everyone to know it is not a requirement that we do so. The school is required to have a hard copy form for us to fill out. They are working on the problem.

There is a National Homeschool Debate Club, called STOA. It has been in existence for a while, but not in South Dakota, until now. There is an informational meeting at the Ronning Library on June 22 at 3pm. I will be out of town, but I wanted to know if any other middle school/highschool parent from St. M wanted to attend the meeting? Info is below, and you can look up Stoa here: https://stoausa.org/? fbclid=IwAR1IwIinOLGToi51hHBt3ochMUQs4ROBZxNdCF8-t3dvwKqBa8AaWFHpG4c

Hey y’all. Just a reminder that traditionally, today (March 31) is Spy Wednesday in the church. In today’s readings we hear that Judas betrays Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. Fun activity: hide 30 quarters (pieces of silver) around your house for the kids to find after reading today’s gospel. Once they have found it, the winner decides how they will spend it. On the poor, or for themselves? I’m off to get a roll of quarters now!

Hello all! So exciting, the homeschool freedom bill, SB177, passed out of the senate education committee. Claire and I went to Pierre to support the bill, and it was eye opening to see how our presence made a big impact, and swayed votes. For real. The senators mentioned that our emails and our presence helped make their decision to vote yes. So we need to band together as a group and do this thing! Please email your senator today and let them know you want them to vote yes on SB177. There are many talking points, so pick any that make sense to you. I mentioned that 39 other states have their homeschool laws written this way, that it cleans up language, saves districts money, and is supported by HSDLA. I mentioned that it does more than save unnecessary paperwork, it opens up opportunities for music, debate, and special needs support. I emailed all the senators, but when you email the one in your district, mention that you are a constituent who homeschools. You can put whatever you like, but if we can get this bill passed, it would be huge for our freedoms and future generations freedoms. No more worrying about putting your high school student in high school and not getting credit. No more tests or yearly paperwork. No more fighting for speech, OT, PT, debate, sports, or music. Best of all, it sets us up as our own autonomous school without their interference. Do it for you, do it for the next generation. We might not have as friendly of an administration if this looses and we have to try again next year. Go to FAIRSD to sign up for emails and updates, and very convenient links to senators and representatives. Lets rally together and be a team. We can do it!
