The Turner county fair is this week! If you haven’t been there it’s a more family friendly , cheaper alternative to the Sioux empire fair. Free admission and $20 wrist bands for rides. Great food from the beef and pork producers and you have to try the chislic stand! ❤️We will plan to go tuesday for the 4-9 ride wrist bands. Some of our members are participating in 4H there so keep an eye out for their entries If you go!

I cant believe it is almost May! Jill and I have already been planning and talking to moms about teaching and I think we have some great things happening! However , it is hard to plan when you don't know who is coming and don't know how many students will be coming. Please send in your registrations this week if you know you will be coming to co op in the Fall. If you are not sure but think you might be interested please shoot me an email so I know and can mark you down as a maybe. I have attached the registration form, you can fill it out and email it back to me or take a picture of it and email it to me, or mail it to me. You can either pay the registration fee online on the website using the co op registration button or you can send a check in the mail if you prefer. Amanda Steele 27076 468th Ave Tea, SD 57064 email: smfco.op.coordinator@gmail.com Here are some brief descriptions of the classes we have planned so far. The grade levels are based on 4 age groups which would depend on the number of students and moms available to assist. Class descriptions Lego building challenges with public speaking- (k-2),(3-4)The students receive a new building challenge each week and are given some time to build in class to complete the challenge. Then they will take turns getting up in front of the class and saying something about their creation and taking questions. The kids get practice speaking in front of a group and thinking on their feet to answer questions. They also get practice listening to a speaker and coming up with questions for them. Magic School Bus science- (k-2 )The students will watch a clip from the Magic School Bus cartoon and do a hands on experiment or project based on the topic covered. Simple Machines- (3-4),( 5-6) Students will learn about the simple machines through hands-on projects building them and using them in class. Elementary Art History- (3-4),(5-6)Every week your learner will discover a new master artist and will be inspired by their style and will work to create his/her own masterpiece. K-2- Art Discovery- (k-2) Children will discover art through hands-on projects using a variety of mediums. Middle School Art History- (7-8) In-depth art discovery through time from ancient times, Renaissance to current time. Students will study famous art pieces in depth and create weekly assignments related to that artist, piece or time period. Students will learn artistic etiquette through weekly classroom presentations. Middle School Astronomy- (7-8) Description coming soon! Gym- we will still plan to have gym for all ages because they all love it so much! It's a mix of team based games, sports, dancing and working on large motor skills for the younger crowd. Other possible classes- Drama classes- (3-4)(5-6)(7-8) The kids will learn to do some improvisation through games and prompts. They will also put on a play including working on props, backdrops, costumes, etc… The idea would be to put on performances at the end of the year for friends and family. Five in a Row- (pre-K )( K-2) Based on the Five in a Row series, students listen to a read aloud story, they talk about topics in the book and do a craft project based on the story. We are super excited for next year and hope you are too! Amanda and Jill

Hey everyone! Co-op is over for the year and it is time to turn our eyes to next year. I will talk a little about what we have planned for next year and then I will attach a Registration form for next year. You can fill it out electronically and send it back to me if you want. I will also have a stack of registration forms at co op tomorrow on the sign in table. Feel free to fill one out and hand it to me, or leave it in my "file" with the kids art work. Registrations are due by May 1st.. I know it is a little earlier than in the past, but it takes time to plan and I don't want to leave that till August. I think it makes sense to have it at the same time every year so people are expecting it. We will start at the same time ,8:30 and have Gym, Art, Science/stem and possibly a drama/skit class for grade levels K-6. The Drama classes all depend on having enough teachers/directors. The middle school , 7th-8th grades, will have Astronomy and another earth science 2nd semester, Art History, Gym and we have an opening to add one more class. We are hoping to keep the classes a bit smaller this year so it may be necessary to split it up into 4 classes. If you would be willing to teach or co-teach a play first semester for any age group please reach out to me. The kids love Drama camp so much, I think they would love it! new co-op coordinator email! smfco.op.coordinator@gmail.com I will try to get into the habit of checking this! Please let me know if you have any questions! Lets thank Meghan for a great year! Amanda

Hey there. I just wanted to put out there that we are going to run through a practice Quiz bowl round on Friday right after classes with a few of the kids that are competing for the first time on Monday. If a few more kids were interested in trying it without any pressure we could use a few more kids to make up two teams. It’s going to be pretty laid back and I’ll talk them through the first few turns. We will meet right after class in either the music room or art room. Whichever is free🙂

Tri valley often hosts an opportunity for the younger grades to try out a quiz bowl. I just got the invite today so it is short notice but let me know By friday if you have a student that would like to try it out. there is a cost per team it is usually around $5 a child. Here Is the info from the host. { I would like to invite you and your students to a 4th, 5th and 6th grade quiz bowl at Tri-Valley on Monday, April 11th at 4pm. We would like to start checking teams in at 3:45 and be ready to start 5 rounds of 20 questions about 4pm. I estimate us to be finished and ready for awards about 5:45, out of here by 6pm. We would like to give out ribbons for places 2-5 and trophies for the first place team. We would not serve supper but would have a small snack available for your teams when they arrive. You can bring teams of up to 6 members, let’s say a limit of 4 teams for now and we’ll see how many we get. I might need some help from coaches or parents on the reading end- we’ll see. I just don’t like to see the frustration 6th graders feel at the MS events and it doesn’t hurt to get kids in QB at a young age so they’ll stick with it! I’d like to have your numbers by Wednesday, April 6th, if possible so I can get it put together. Thanks, and I hope you can join us on the 11th! }

The East River Foster Parent Network does a giving tree for foster kids in our area. They have 200+ kids left. You can choose a sibling group or single tags. They mostly operate on face book but I’ll post the website Below. If you go to their Facebook page they have the information about the giving tree in a post. https://www.erfpn.com/

I have gotten a few emails about quiz bowl finally starting back up again! if Anyone grades 9-12 is interested in participating in a high school quiz bowl this year let me know. so far there is one on November 1st in Brookings ( All Saints Day I know!:() and one in Dell Rapids November 9th. If you are not familiar with quiz bowl it is a team sport where your team of 4 students competes against another team in several rounds. There are a wide range of questions asked so it is great to have kids with different strengths on a team. Let me know if you have any questions Or have a student who is interested!
