This school year I'm again planning to offer an hour-long theology course on *Tuesdays* (day change from years past) from 5-6 at the Diocesan offices right next to the Cathedral. This will be for anyone in 9th grade through 12th grade (i.e. any highschooler with a birthdate before 8/1/08). As in years past, this course will consist of two parts: in the first half-hour, we will do a study of Matthew's Gospel. Through the at-home online viewing of the relevant video series, together with in-class teaching and discussion, students will begin to develop an understanding of how the Church grew and spread the Gospel in hostile cultures. During the second half-hour, we'd do some contemporary issues/apologetics, taking various issues that are in discussion in our culture and explaining the Church's teaching, in a way suited to their age and to the questions they're likely to hear from peers and think themselves (e.g. God's existence; how we know Jesus is God; transgenderism, etc.). I'd develop the topics via conversation with students' parents and with them. (This year I'm toying with doing a debate-style approach, but I want to wait and see how many students we might have first, and gauge their interest). Materials & Cost: For the Gospel of Matthew portion, the videos of the Ascension Press course that we'll use can be streamed for free with the purchase of a participant's guide, which is $37.95. For the apologetics portion, there won't be any textbook or other resources to purchase, as I'll simply present on the topic and we'd discuss it. There will occasionally be articles for students to read that I'll provide via email. The cost of the course will be $100 per semester. The first semester will begin Sept. 13th, concluding on Dec. 6th, with no class on Thanksgiving and having Dec. 13th as a makeup day. I'll set the second semester dates once my calendar firms up a bit more. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you'd like to sign-up! In Christ, Chris

The diocesan IT dept. was given an abundance of used desktop computers that they'd like to pass on to families that are interested. Let me if your family is interested in one, and I'll get you connected. Monitors - Screen size = 23" Computers-(very small) Hp elitedesk 800 g2 mini desktops. Processor = 6th gen i5 Memory = 8gb - 16gb Storage = 256gb ssd Video ports = 2 DisplayPorts and 1 VGA port. Dimensions = L 7" W 7" H 1.5" They have built-in wifi and we will install windows 10 on them. *Sorry but these do not come with an IT support contract or data transfer services. These computers are not compatible with Windows 11 but would be good until 10/14/2025, after that date, Windows 10 will no longer be supported by Microsoft. This means that Windows security updates are no longer pushed out to Windows 10 pcs and therefore we do not recommend using them after that date.

Your 4th grader (along with other area school 4th graders) is invited to attend the Sioux Empire Water Festival in-person fieldtrip at the Univ of Sioux Falls on: March 8th, 8:45-11am (Tuesday morning) parents drop-off/pick-up at USF I've lead and gone with all my children and have always loved this event. It's a fun, low-key, hands-on experience that discusses the importance of water in our ecosystem environment. There are presenters from The Outdoor Campus, South Dakota Games, Fish, Parks, area biology professors, area horticultural specialists, etc., to name a few. I will be attending as a chaperone for the St. Margaret's group and will need one other parent to be the second. Let me know if you're child will attend in this thread OR you can email me directly at: burgwalds@gmail.com by Feb. 25th, and I'll send out more information privately as the time gets closer and have a final roster. P.S. This will be my last year leading and being the contact person for it since my youngest is now in 4th grade. If you're interested in being the SMF contact for next year, let me know. Thanks!

I have a friend who is new to town and is looking for a pediatrician or family doc for her children. Ridder has already been suggested, but he's moving down to two days/wk and not accepting new patients. They've tried James Sarah and Travis Slaba but would like other recommendations. Any suggestions? TIA!

Anyone know a good family looking for a new home? Our next door neighbors are moving and the house just went on the market today. 3/1 upstairs basic ranch style, easy walk to St. Lambert, parks, and city pool. Lots of young kids on the block. We love our neighborhood! https://www.dreamhomevision.com/homes-for-sale/SD/sioux-falls/57103/928-s-churchill-ave/lid-60785aa5d909992bd6c796aa

For anyone with a current high schooler or incoming Freshman, registration for NSU online eLearning classes, open to homeschoolers and school districts, will be opening March 29th for the 2021-22 school year. I've heard through the grapevine that there is an increased demand for these classes for the next academic year, and they are encouraging early registration since availability is based on a first come, first serve bases. All classes and supplies are free, although this year we had minimal online textbook fees. In order to register, unless it's changed for the upcoming year, a homeschool parent needs to contact their local high school's registrar/counseling office and request that they register your child(ren). I've found this to be a very easy process with no resistance. Our three oldest have all used NSU eLearning for Biology and our twins for Spanish I. Let me know if you have any questions.
